Israeli forces continue an offensive in Palestinian territories for weeks.

Mediated discussions working toward a lasting settlement on a American ceasefire proposal to stop the conflict in Gaza have commenced in the Egyptian city of the Egyptian resort town.

Middle Eastern and regional officials have reported that the sessions are focused on "creating the field conditions" for a possible exchange that would result in the liberation of all Israeli hostages in compensation of a group of detained Palestinians.

Officials declared it accepts the negotiation framework partially, but has omitted reference to several key demands - particularly its disarmament and political participation in Gaza.

The government official said on Saturday that he anticipated declaring the freeing of captives "in the coming days"

Conflict Timeline

The negotiations, which will see Middle Eastern officials conducting mediation with delegations from both Israel and Hamas separately, come on the eve of the two-year mark of the armed assault on southern Israel on October 7th, in which nearly 1,200 people were fatally wounded and 251 others were captured.

The armed forces launched a campaign in Gaza in retaliation. From that point, 67,160 have been killed by defense force actions in Gaza, based on data from the region's Hamas-run health ministry.

Proposal Framework

The comprehensive proposal, which has been agreed upon by American leadership and the Netanyahu government, suggests an immediate end to combat and the liberation of 48 captives, only 20 individuals are thought to be living, in return for numerous of incarcerated individuals.

The proposal specifies that once both sides agree to the proposal "full aid will be immediately sent into the conflict zone"

It also declares that the militant group would have no involvement in governing Gaza, and it permits an eventual Palestinian state.

Latest Updates

On Friday, Hamas responded to the plan in a announcement, in which the group approved "to liberate all captured individuals, both surviving and deceased, in accordance with the swap arrangement specified by President Trump's proposal" - if the proper conditions for the exchanges are fulfilled.

It did not specifically mention or accept the detailed initiative but said it "renews its agreement to relinquish the management of the Palestinian territory to a Palestinian body of technocrats, based on Palestinian national consensus and international backing"

The statement omitted reference of one of the essential conditions of the proposal – that the organization accept its disarmament and to ceasing political participation in the governance of Gaza.

International Response

Local residents characterized Hamas' response to the ceasefire proposal as unexpected, after an extended period of signals that the group was preparing to reject or at least heavily condition its acceptance of the US framework.

Alternatively, the organization refrained from including its established limits in the formal declaration, a move many consider a evidence of international influence.

International and regional representatives have endorsed the proposal. The Palestinian Authority, which administers areas of the Palestinian territories, has described the US president's efforts as "authentic and resolute"

The Islamic Republic - which has been one of Hamas's main sponsors for decades - has also recently indicated its backing of the American initiative.

Israeli bombardment continued in various locations of the Palestinian territory on recently before the talks beginning.

Hundreds of thousands of the metropolitan area have been forced to flee after the Israeli military ordered evacuations to a designated "humanitarian area" in the south, but hundreds of thousands more are thought to have stayed.

The military official has cautioned that those who stay during the military operation would be "combatants and their sympathizers"
