The British tennis star earned the most notable success of his career by rebounding from a set down to defeat world No 1 Carlos Alcaraz in three hard-fought sets in the early stage of the Paris Masters.

Although he had earlier defeated Alcaraz on two separate matches, this victory represents Norrie's maiden success over a current world number one.

"Massive. Extremely important for me," stated Norrie, who becomes the newest English competitor in history to defeat a top-ranked player. "Bouncing back from injury last year, I fell in the opening stage of qualifying rounds here. I just aimed to appreciate my tennis in the closing months of the year. To secure a victory like this, it's the most significant win of my professional life, my maiden triumph over the global number one and probably the most confident competitor in the tennis scene right now."

The British player, ranked No 31, also ended Alcaraz's impressive streak of nine straight final appearances and 17 consecutive elite tournament wins, which represented the best series of results in the Spanish star's developing professional path.

Alcaraz seemed to be advancing smoothly towards victory in the beginning as he eased in the initial stanza. However, Norrie steadily fought his way into the match by executing with greater precision and engaging the Spanish opponent into lengthy, demanding points. His relentless steadiness and dependability gradually made an impact.

For much of the match, Alcaraz performed well on serve but he struggled badly to find his timing with his rally strokes.
